On the variety of triangles for a hyper-Kähler fourfold constructed by Debarre and Voisin

We study the similarities between the Fano varieties of lines on a cubic fourfold, a hyper-Kähler fourfold studied by Beauville and Donagi, and the hyper-Kähler fourfold constructed by Debarre and Voisin in [3]. We exhibit an analog of the notion of “triangle” for these varieties and prove that the 6-dimensional variety of “triangles” is a Lagrangian subvariety in the cube of the constructed hyper-Kähler fourfold.     

On the rate of convergence of solutions in free boundary problems via penalization

The rate of convergence of approximate solutions via penalization for free boundary problems are concerned. A key observation is to obtain global bounds of penalized terms which give necessary estimates on integrations by the nonlinear adjoint method by L.C. Evans.     

An asymptotic Reissner–Mindlin plate model

A mathematical study via variational convergence of a periodic distribution of classical linearly elastic thin plates softly abutted together shows that it is not necessary to use a different continuum model nor to make constitutive symmetry hypothesis as starting points to deduce the Reissner–Mindlin plate model.     

Promotion of a quality standard for Porana sinensis Hemsl. based on the efficacy-oriented Effect-Constituent Index

Multicompound determination for the quality control of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) may often be inadequate, since these compounds may not be associated with, or fully represent, the clinical effects of TCM. Moreover, the individual contributions of each constituent to the pharmacological effect are often not considered. In China, Porana sinensis is widely used as a substitute for Erycibe sources to treat joint pain and rheumatoid arthritis. The existing quality control methods for P. sinensis neither consider the individual contributions of various compounds nor control the actual quality associated with different clinical efficacies. In the present study, a novel efficacy-oriented approach, named the effect-constituent index (ECI), was established for P. sinensis. Analyses of the spectrum–effect relationship and components in rat plasma were conducted to systematically and scientifically select quality markers. Quantitative analysis of multicomponents via a single marker method was introduced to enhance the practical application value of the established ECI. The established ECI shows a good ability to distinguish and predict the bioeffect-based quality of P. sinensis. The present study also provides a reference for the establishment and application of ECI as a quality control method for TCMs.     

Domain decomposition methods in a geometrical multiscale domain using finite volume schemes

The heat equation is solved by using a finite volume discretization in a domain that consists of a two-dimensional central node and several one-dimensional outgoing branches. Several interface connection options to match the submodels set on the node and on the branches, with or without continuity, are looked at. For each of them, a monolithic scheme is defined, and existence and uniqueness of the solution is proved. New schemes are deduced, which are obtained through domain decomposition methods in the form of interface systems, with one or two unknowns per interface. A comparative systematic study is carried out from an algebraic and numerical point of view according to the interface conditions: Dirichlet, Neumann, or Robin. An efficient diagonal preconditioning is proposed.     

The application of the Lattice Boltzmann method to the one-dimensional modeling of pulse waves in elastic vessels

The one-dimensional nonlinear equations for the blood flow motion in distensible vessels are considered using the kinetic approach. It is shown that the Lattice Boltzmann (LB) model for non-ideal gas is asymptotically equivalent to the blood flow equations for compliant vessels at the limit of low Knudsen numbers. The equations of state for non-ideal gas are transformed to the pressure-luminal area response. This property allows to model arbitrary pressure-luminal area relations. Several test problems are considered: the propagation of a sole nonlinear wave in an elastic vessel, the propagation of a pulse wave in a vessel with varying mechanical properties (artery stiffening) and in an artery bifurcation, in the last problem Resistor–Capacitor–Resistor (RCR) boundary conditions are considered. The comparison with the previous results shows a good precision.
